WHMCS 9.1 Beta is here, and preparations for the next major WHMCS release are already underway at ModulesGarden.
We’ve started rolling out compatibility updates across our product portfolio, with a growing number of modules already ready for WHMCS 9.1 Beta testing. More releases are on the way as we continue working through our modules.
If you’re using ModulesGarden products, now is a good time to check their compatibility status, review the new system requirements, and prepare for the upcoming WHMCS version.
What’s New in WHMCS 9.1?
WHMCS 9.1 introduces changes to the platform, including improvements to billing, administration, and system compatibility.
Some of the notable additions include:
- PHP 8.4 support – Expands the supported PHP environments for WHMCS installations.
- Unattended automatic updates – Introduces additional options for scheduling maintenance releases.
- Billing improvements – Includes changes to invoice management and credit and debit notes.
- Iris Admin Area preview – Offers an early look at a redesigned administrative interface.
- Payment and API updates – Introduces further improvements to payment integrations and API capabilities.
For the complete list of changes, see the official WHMCS 9.1 release notes.
Before You Upgrade: Check the System Requirements
One of the most important technical changes in WHMCS 9.1 is the requirement for ionCube Loader 15.0.0. This applies even if you plan to continue using PHP 8.2 or PHP 8.3.
WHMCS 9.1 also introduces support for PHP 8.4. Before updating your environment, make sure your server meets the necessary requirements.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| PHP | 8.2 | 8.4 |
| ionCube Loader | 15.0.0 | 15.0.0 |
Important: Follow the Correct Upgrade Order
If you’re planning to move to PHP 8.4, follow this sequence:
- Upgrade ionCube Loader to 15.0.0.
- Update WHMCS to version 9.1.
- Upgrade PHP to 8.4, if needed.
Before making changes, create a backup and review the compatibility requirements of your installed ModulesGarden products. Check the official WHMCS documentation for the complete system requirements.
ModulesGarden WHMCS 9.1 Compatibility Updates Are Already Rolling Out
We began testing our modules shortly after the WHMCS 9.1 Beta release and have already published compatibility updates for a growing number of products.
Our work covers different areas of WHMCS functionality, from hosting and server management to billing, automation, and Client Area customization.
With more than 80 products in our portfolio, compatibility testing is an ongoing process. We’re releasing updates progressively rather than waiting until the entire portfolio is ready.
To make it easier to track our progress, we’ve introduced a dedicated WHMCS 9.1 Ready filter in our marketplace. It displays products confirmed compatible with WHMCS 9.1 Beta, and the list continues to grow as new releases become available.

How to Prepare Your ModulesGarden Modules for WHMCS 9.1
You don’t need to wait for the stable WHMCS 9.1 release to start preparing. Here’s what we recommend doing now:
- Check compatibility. Review the ModulesGarden products installed in your WHMCS environment and compare them with our WHMCS 9.1 compatibility list.
- Review changelogs and download updates. Check the latest product changelogs for compatibility information and download the appropriate module versions through your ModulesGarden client account, provided your access to updates is active.
- Test before upgrading. If you’re testing WHMCS 9.1 Beta, use a staging environment and verify the module functions you rely on before planning your production upgrade.
If a module isn’t listed as compatible yet, it doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a problem. It may still be awaiting testing or an upcoming release. We’re continuing to publish updates, so check back regularly for the latest compatibility information.
WHMCS 9.1 Beta vs. Stable: Which Modules Can You Use?
Our WHMCS 9.1 Beta-compatible module releases also support their applicable stable WHMCS versions. This means you don’t need to switch to the Beta release to benefit from the latest ModulesGarden updates.
WHMCS 9.1 Beta
Use confirmed compatible ModulesGarden modules for testing in non-production environments only.
Supported Stable WHMCS Versions
Updated ModulesGarden modules can be used in production with their supported stable WHMCS versions. Always check the compatibility information in the individual product changelog.
What Happens When WHMCS 9.1 Stable Is Released?
Our compatibility work doesn’t end with the Beta release. Once WHMCS 9.1 Stable becomes available, we’ll continue verifying our modules against the final release and publish additional updates where needed.
Before upgrading your production WHMCS installation, we recommend checking compatibility information again, even if you’ve already tested your modules with the Beta version.
This helps ensure you’re using the appropriate module versions for your environment.
Stay Ready for WHMCS 9.1
WHMCS 9.1 is approaching, and there’s no need to leave compatibility checks until the last moment.
At ModulesGarden, we’re working through our portfolio and releasing compatible module versions regularly. Whether you’re already testing the Beta or planning to upgrade after the stable release, you can follow our progress in one place.
Check the latest compatibility updates, review your module changelogs, and make sure your environment is ready when the time comes.
